Bataan Day or Araw ng Kagitingan in the Philippines is a yearly celebration of the heroism of Filipino soldiers who sacrificed themselves for the freedom of the country during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines of World War II. This day is celebrated every 9th of April. It is one of the most significant holidays in the country and is declared as a public holiday.

The History of Bataan Day is one of the most significant portions of the history of the Philippines. During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, about 76,000 Filipino soldiers were captured and forced to March in Bataan. This is now infamously known as Bataan Death March. It happened on April 9, 1942. The distance was about 145 kilometers and thousands of these soldiers died due to several reasons like dehydration, starvation, and various diseases. But despite this, many of the surviving soldiers participated in battles that prevented the Japanese occupation in many areas. Their immense contribution towards the freedom of the Philippines led to their sacrifice is commemorated each year on April 9.
